Helen qualified from Sheffield Hallam University as a chartered physiotherapist in 2003. She completed her junior and senior rotations at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, allowing her to gain experience in all areas of Physiotherapy. During this time she also worked part-time in private practice as well as providing physiotherapy and match day first aid for Penrith Football Club.
In 2008 Helen left the NHS to work at a private hospital running the musculoskeletal out-patient department, this involved working closely with orthopaedic consultants and occupational health teams.
In 2010 Helen took up a position with The Fire Fighters Charity working at a rehabilitation centre. This role involved treating clients at different stages of rehabilitation from acute injury right through to return to work drills. When returning to work after her first child Helen felt ready for a new challenge and in 2013 took up her current role as Team Lead Pelvic Health Physiotherapist and Senior Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist in the NHS.
Since qualifying Helen has continued to study and holds certificates in orthopaedic medicine and acupuncture. She has attended many courses including, assessment and management of female urinary dysfunction, assessment and management of anorectal dysfunction, current research in the treatment of rectus diastasis abdominis (separation of abdominals often related to pregnancy), male continence, spinal manipulation and trigger point release. She has also attended national conferences for continence and women's health.
Outside of work Helen spends most of her time running around after her two boys. In her spare time she enjoys cycling, running and training at Crossfit Cumbria.
